Pakistan reject neutral venues Wisden CricInfo staff - October 1, 2002
Pakistan Cricket Board officials have told ICC that they are not willing to play any future Test series on neutral territory. In two days' time, Pakistan begin their three-Test series against Australia in Colombo, with the remaining two Tests scheduled for Sharjah. The series was switched because of security concerns, but the PCB chairman, Tauqir Zia, told ICC's executive board meeting that they would not be willing to switch again. "Pakistan have said no to future Test series being played on neutral ground, and want us to take steps to ensure teams travel to that country," said Malcolm Gray, the president of ICC. India, the West Indies and Australia have all refused to play in Pakistan, while New Zealand abandoned their tour after a bomb blast outside their hotel in Karachi. PCB officials estimate that they have lost £16 million in sponsorship money as a result. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
