Zaheer rested for third Test
Wisden CricInfo staff - October 20, 2002

The Indian team announced today that Zaheer Khan will be rested for the third Test against West Indies at Kolkata, on medical advice. But he will be available for the seven-match one-day series that starts at Jamshedpur on November 6. "He's been bowling non-stop for 10 months now," Sourav Ganguly, the Indian captain, said after India had wrapped up the second Test to go 2-0 up in the three-Test series. "We'd like to see him fresh when we go to New Zealand later this year."

However, Ganguly discounted any suggestions of India experimenting with their team too much. "A Test cap is not to be taken lightly," he said, "and we won't be chopping and changing too much."

When asked about the possible inclusion of SS Das in the team for the next Test, Ganguly said: "The players in those positions have done very well, so it is unlikely that we'll play Das."

Zaheer will be replaced in the Test side by Ajit Agarkar.
