ICC to meet Indian players today
ICC Media Release - 4 September 2002

The ICC today confirmed that it had received a request from the BCCI to meet with the Indian players in England to discuss their participation in the ICC Champions Trophy in September and that it would immediately take up this offer.

ICC Chief Executive, Malcolm Speed, said that the BCCI had advised him that it had not yet reached an agreement with the Indian players to accept the Player Terms previously agreed by the Indian Board.

"The Indian Board has advised us that it has not reached an agreement with its players," said Mr Speed.

"The BCCI has previously committed to the ICC that its players would represent their country at the Champions Trophy under the Player Terms detailed in the Participating Nations Agreement.

"The President of the BCCI, Mr Jagmohan Dalmiya, has now asked that the ICC deal directly with the Indian players to see if it is possible to find a suitable compromise.

"I will meet with the players today and remain hopeful that a solution will be found that will allow the best players in India to represent their country and for the ICC's commercial partners who support the sport to be protected from ambush marketing programs by their competitors."
