University of Cape Town MTN Club Champions Bronwyn Wilkinson - 25 September 2002
The University of Cape Town beat Tukkies by five wickets at SuperSport Park in Centurion today to be crowned MTN National Club Champions for 2002/3. Tukkies won the toss and elected to bat, scoring 259/5 in their allotted 45 overs. Matthew Ferriera scored 67 off 79 deliveries and Martin van der Merwe 40* off 25 balls. Craig Parker scored 41 off 43 deliveries. Pick of the UCT bowlers was Jonathan Shutte (2/53 in nine overs) and Farhaan Behardien (2/41 in eight overs). UCT replied with 262/5, with Man-of-the-Match Neil Kruger top-scoring with 95* off 124 deliveries, supported by Darren Croxford (52 off 44 balls). Of the Tukkies bowlers, Martin van der Merwe took 2/40 in his nine overs.
