Robin Peterson drops back into the South African 'A' team Keith Lane - 26 September 2002
Convenor of National Selectors, Omar Henry, has named the following South African squads to play the opening two one-day internationals and the tour match against the touring Bangladesh team. Surprise omission from the South Africa squad is Robin Peterson who performed well enough in Sri Lanka, one thought, to be given another chance in the absence of the injured Nicky Boje. Into the squad come Errol Stewart, Martin van Jaarsveld and Mfuneko Ngam. Ngam's inclusion in the team, after only bowling 16 overs in the recent series against Australia `A', is subject to his fitness following his appearance in a SuperSport Series match for Eastern Province against Northerns in Port Elizabeth this weekend. For Van Jaarsveld the call up is just reward for two seasons, and a successful stint in England, of prolific form. The inclusion of Stewart could be a tactical one to give Mark Boucher a much needed rest. The South African squad for the two one-day internationals at Potchefstroom (Thursday 3 October) and Benoni (Sunday 6 October) is:
Shaun Pollock KwaZulu-Natal (captain) The South African `A' team is much the same as that did duty against Australia `A' with Monde Zondeki, the young fast bowler from Border, and debutante centurion Enoch Nkwe, from Gauteng coming into the team. No place could be found in the team for Steve Elworthy, Mornantau Hayward, and Errol Stewart. Gary Kirtsen and Justin Kemp who did not have good series against the Australians have also been left out. The team for the tour match in Soweto (Tuesday 1 October) is:
