The participation of India's best players in the Champions Trophy remained uncertain even after Malcolm Speed met them in an attempt to resolve the controversy. Though Speed was optimistic and stated that "a lot of progress had been made", the issue still hadn't been resolved to the Indian players' satisfaction. The two clauses which had irked them were: a) the one that gave ICC and their sponsors rights to use the players' images for six months from the completion of the event, and b) the clause which prohibits them from endorsing rival products for 30 days after the event. The Indians were willing to back down from their second demand, but the issue of ICC using the players' image remained unresolved.

The Indian team manager Ranga Reddy informed that the players were still consulting with Ravi Shastri, their representative. However, with the crucial fourth Test against England starting on Thursday, there'll be little chance of the players discussing contracts for the next five days.

Meanwhile, Speed was optimistic that players from Australia, England and Sri Lanka - the other three countries who haven't signed the contract yet - would do so on Thursday.
