It's Morgan of Glamorgan
Wisden CricInfo staff - September 13, 2002
We have become so used to predictable elections in Britain that it's refreshing to have a surprise for a change. David Morgan has been chosen as the new chairman of the England & Wales Cricket Board, to replace Lord MacLaurin. All the pre-election headlines had been made by Mike Soper, the pro-active Surrey boss, but in the end Morgan won the vote 11-8. Unlike Soper, Morgan made very little noise during the campaign - maybe he was already confident of his support. One thing is certain: there will be general relief at the ECB offices, one of Soper's stated targets. Morgan, MacLaurin's deputy for the last four years, is seen as less of a loose cannon there. But the occasionally-smug ECB blazers do need a bit of a shake-up, so we have to hope Morgan is more of a Glamorgan dragon that he seems. Steven Lynch
