Kenya v India 2000-01
Wisden CricInfo staff - September 10, 2002
At Gymkhana, Nairobi, October 3. India won by eight wickets. Toss: India. International debuts: V. Dahiya, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan. The hosts hoped to repeat their upset of India in the Coca-Cola Cup in May 1998; instead, they were peremptorily evicted from their own party. After losing early wickets to Kumble, Kenya regrouped through an 81-run stand between Odumbe and Shah, who swatted one superb six over extra cover off Prasad. His attempt to replicate the shot, however, started another slide, of five for 29, despite a run-a-ball innings from Odoyo. India's batsmen took a measured approach to a target of 209 until Kambli, carving an unbeaten 39 from 33 balls, lifted the run-rate from four to six an over. A disappointing turn-out left the redeveloped Gymkhana Club stadium half-empty, suggesting that cricket had yet to catch the country's imagination.
Man of the Match: A. Kumble.
