Salim Raza ensured a place for the United Arab Emirates in the 1996 World Cup with another remarkable innings in the second ICC Trophy semifinal on Thursday. Raza scored 65 not out from only 55 balls as the U.A.E. defeated the Netherlands by six wickets. They will now meet Kenya in Sunday's final while the Netherlands meet Bermuda in the third-place playoff on Saturday to decide the other qualifier. After dismissing the Netherlands for 194 off 48.3 overs, the U.A.E. reached their target with six wickets in hand from 44.4 overs. The U.A.E made a nervous start and after 25 of their 50 overs were reduced to 72 for four. Then Raza came to the rescue with Mohammad Ishaq (72 not out) playing sensibly in an unbroken fifth-wicket partnership of 123 from 120 balls.
