Kenya, Bangladesh, Canada and Scotland made up the four qualifiers for the Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games in 1998. They earned the right by being the top four Commonwealth nations in the ongoing ICC Trophy. Malaysia earn an automatic entry into the 16-team cricket competition in September 1998 as hosts. It will be the first time cricket is played at the Commonwealth Games. All four qualifiers are in the quarterfinal round of the ICC Trophy. The top three teams in the ICC Trophy will qualify for the 1999 World Cup in England. Eight of the 16 teams at the Commonwealth Games will be Test-playing nations. They are Australia, England, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, South Africa and Zimbabwe. West Indies, the ninth, will split up into three, representing the separate countries which make up the Caribbean cricketing power. Organisers of the Commonwealth Games do not yet know if the Test-playing countries would send full-strength sides for the limited overs contest. "We have sent questionnaires and are waiting for replies," said Hashim Mohammed, executive chairman of the Commonwealth Games organising committee. There had been reports that England would not send their Test team for the Commonwealth Games. Source:: Dawn (http://xiber.com/dawn/) Contributed by The Management (help@cricinfo.com)
