WC87 Group B: Pakistan v Sri Lanka, 8 October 1987

The  highlight  of  the Pak innings was the 113 run stand for the
3rd wkt between Miandad and Rameez Raja, and Miandad's  5th  one-
day 100.

Mahanama started out in style with some flowing drives. He was so
close to becoming the 1st Sri Lnakan  to  score  a  WC  100  when
Akhtar  had  him caught by Miandad in his only over of the match.
Vice-capt Dias and skipper Mendis did not  last  long,  Ranatunga
was  dismissed  just  as he was getting into groove, and when Ma-
hanama left, SL was in trouble. Before he was out though  he  was
in a fruitful partnership with Gurusinghe who was looking ominous
till he was bowled by Qadir in his last over.  Enter Arvinda  De-
Silva,  and with 51 runs required in the last 5 overs, he hit Im-
ran for a huge 6 over square-leg, and brought SL very close -- 18
runs  required in 8 balls. Going for another big hit, he lost his
leg-stump.  Now it was all over and Imran could sigh in relief.

Miandad became the 3rd batsman to reach 4000 runs in ODIs.
