1996 World Cup Profile:

The Captain of the Kenyan side, Maurice Odumbe plays league cricket for the Aga Khan Cricket Club. Odumbe Has played for the national team for a number of years and is certainly amongst the two best batsmen in the side (the other being Steve Tikolo). His performance against the India A side was satisfactory, but his showing on the South African tour lacked any of the brilliance he is potentially capable of. A technically correct batsman, it is a difficult task for bowlers to dismiss him when he gets going. In the re- cent Kenya one-day league, Odumbe scored a sparkling century for Aga Khan against Ruaraka who had the likes of Paras Mhambrey and Sairaj Bahutule in their bowling line-up. Recently, Odumbe has also been used occasionally as an off-spinner thanks to the coaching skills of Balwinder Sandhu. Additionally, he is an excellent fielder. Off the field, Odumbe is a polite, affable and courteous chap. He will, in most likelihoods, be batting at no. 4, and will be heavily relied upon, along with Steve Tikolo, to get the bulk of the runs for Kenya. Thanks :: Dipesh Patel
