1996 World Cup Profile:

This extremely stylish left handed batsman is the most consistent performer in the Sri Lankan side in the last three years. He tops the current batting averages in Test matches for his country and has consistently scored test centuries against top class teams. Batting at number #5 or #6, he is capable of stepping the run rate extremely well and has been involved in some of the most thrilling chases in the limited overs matches. He is also an extremely agile close-in fielder. He, in fact, started off his career as a wicket keeper before relinquishing that role to others with better qualification.
