Date-stamped : 07 Feb96 - 02:17 World Cup 1996 - Warm Up Holland v Kenya Brabourne Stadium, Bombay 5 February, 1996 ====> REPORT Three-run win for Holland over Kenya MUMBAI, Feb. 5. Holland overcame severe heat and a strong Kenyan middle order resilience in its first warm-up match played under World Cup rules at the Brabourne Stadium here today. The Holland skipper Steven Lubbers, 42, revealed after his side`s three run win that, ``We struggled in the first 15 overs because of the slow nature of the pitch. Then when we fielded, the heat was on us literally. Some of them became dizzy.`` Lubbers conspicuous by the bushy mustache had excelled with the bat in the morning session after the loss of Nolan Clarke and Flavian Aponso. Former Queenslander, Peter Cantrell, with good experience in Australia`s Sheffield Shield cricket, scored 71 off 140 balls and hit nine 4s. Lubbers, slammed 57 off 69 balls with six 4s in his two hour stay in the middle. The Lubbers Cantrell third wicket stand real- ised 124 runs in 27.5 overs. Holland`s seventh wicket pair rat- tled off 17 runs in the 50th over which saw the European na- tion race past 200. Kenya bowled only 49 overs in its allotted time and hence it had to score 217 in 49 overs. It appeared that skipper Maurice Odumbe and left hander Hitesh Modi had successfully blunted the Dutch attack which had reduced Kenya to 70 for four wickets which included that of Steve Tikolo, the team`s leading batsman. Odumbe and Modi added 82 runs for the fifth wicket in 17.3 overs. Kenya needed 25 runs from four overs, but the fall of Modi, started the collapse. In the end Kenya finished at 213 for nine with Odumbe scoring 60 off 61 balls with one six and three 4s. The scores: Holland 216 for six in 50 overs (Peter Cantrell 71, Steven Lubbers 57, Thomas Odoyo 3 for 50) beat Kenya 213 for nine in 49 overs (Maurice Odumbe 60, Hitesh Modi 39).
