Dravid, Bangar script sensational Indian win at Ahmedabad
The bigger the challenge the more prepared this Indian batting line-up seems to be. In the fourth one-day international at Ahmedabad on Saturday, the hosts seemed down and out when they lost Virender Sehwag and Sourav Ganguly with just 45 on the board. At that stage, the task of getting a further 280 runs to seal a series-leveling win seemed improbable what with Merv Dillon getting the ball to spew raw venom. But VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid, nothing daunted, pieced together a 103-run partnership before Laxman (66 off 74 balls) was run-out. Yuvraj Singh, then, continued the good work, making a run-a-ball 30, but his dismissal followed soon after by that of Mohammad Kaif seemed to take the steam out of the Indian challenge. Only for a short while, though, as Sanjay Bangar, like a butterfly stepping out of its chrysalis, emerged to dazzle. The wiry all-rounder smashed an unbeaten 57 off 44 balls, while sharing an invigorating 94-run stand with Dravid (109* off 124 balls) to take India past the West Indies total of 324-4, an innings that was dominated by Chris Gayle (140 off 127 balls) and Ramnaresh Sarwan ( 99* off 104 balls).

ICC to introduce specific measures for crowd-affected games
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is planning to introduce specific measures to decide the outcome of matches disrupted by crowd trouble, ICC match referee Mike Procter told reporters ahead of the fifth one-day international between the India and West Indies. Poor crowd behaviour marred the first three matches and Procter was forced to abandon the third one-dayer at Rajkot last Tuesday after missiles thrown by fans hit three West Indies players. The match was awarded to India on the basis of the Duckworth/Lewis method used for rain-affected games. "Currently there are no written rules," Procter said, about the steps that could be taken when such a situation develops. "The ICC is also looking into it, if a match is abandoned, who does it. Right now the authority is with the match referee." The ICC.s Safety and Security Committee will also discuss who should be given the match in case of crowd interruptions and whether the international status of the venues involved should be scrapped. Procter defended his abandoning the Rajkot match and refuted some domestic media reports, which suggested that the West Indies team management and the match referee had overreacted. "There have been reports in the press that the West Indies overreacted in Rajkot, we overreacted. I want to make clear that it is not true. West Indies did not abandon the game, I did," Procter said. He added that West Indies fast bowler Pedro Collins was twice hit by objects when walking on the boundary line, and Ryan Hinds and Vasbert Drakes were also struck while fielding in the deep.

This team doesn.t give up - Ganguly
An elated Sourav Ganguly praised his team after they pulled off the third successful chase in one-day history at Ahmedabad on Saturday. .This is an indication of our new fighting spirit and of the fact that this team doesn't give up,. Ganguly said after the match. "We believe we can win whatever the situation and someone always stands up and delivers. At Lord's, it was Yuvraj and Kaif and here Dravid and Bangar." "Rahul played very well, he batted till the end. There was any way we could have won the game without him. We were struggling a bit after we lost a few wickets in the middle but Bangar came up with a fantastic little cameo in the end and took the match away from West Indies's grasp," he added.

The captain of the Delhi Ranji team, Vijay Dahiya, made his debut in Test cricket on this day in 2000. The wicket-keeper/batsman, though, did not exactly latch on to his big opportunity, going on to just play one more Test before finding himself in the wilderness. He also has appeared in 19 ODIs for India.
