AV: You played your cricket very hard, in what is now known as the "Australian way." What is it that separates the good teams from the really great teams?

GC: I think, from an Australian point of view it is the culture that has developed. I think it has always been there and has got refined as the years have gone by. We have a very strong domestic competition. Our first class cricket is very competitive and has a lot of very good players. That's why we produce the right type of players to play at the highest level of the game. But what really separates the good teams from the great teams is the collective mindset of each player wanting to take responsibility for making sure that the team is successful. The current Australian team has refined that to a point that very few teams in the past have achieved. The West Indies in the late 70s and the 80s were in a similar situation. They had a collective desire to win. If one player did not perform, someone else was always there to bail the side out. I think it is that collective desire that separates the good teams from the great teams.
