Rajat Bhatia
When a young cricketer moves out of his home town and settles down in a
city far away just to pursue a career in sport you know he is very serious
about the game. Rajat Bhatia is one such young man. He moved from Delhi to
Tamil Nadu early in his career.
Having made the move to Chennai Rajat Bhatia has since established himself
as a force to reckon with. Doing well in youth cricket, Bhatia resisted the
temptation to specialise early on. Bowling nippy medium pacers and batting
anywhere in the order Bhatia was welcome in any team. The fact that he
scores his runs in quick time makes him all the more useful.
When he has the ball in hand Rajat Bhatia prefers to bowl straight up and
down. Although he does have the pace necessary to surprise batsmen,
consistency is his forte. When the situation warrants it Bhatia has proven
that he is up to the task. Ripping out the end of the Punjab innings in the
Ranji Trophy quarterfinals at Chennai Bhatia picked up 3 wickets in the
space of 15 balls giving away just 2 runs.
What must count as the greatest pointer towards Bhatia's ability is what he
achieved in his debut. Overcoming nerves, Bhatia top scored in both
innings. Although he was asked to bat at number ten, he made a fighting 72.
In the second innings of the same match Bhatia's ability was recognised. He
was put in at the top of the order and once again top scored. Cometh the
hour, cometh the man.
