CRICINFO PASSES 1,000,000,000 IN 2001
21 Aug 2001

CricInfo.com, the world's most popular sports web site, has today recorded its billionth page view in 2001. This is the first time that the site has passed this landmark in a calendar year, and reflects strong performance in all major markets.

The site raced to this landmark earlier today as Yorkshire prepare their final assault on the CricInfo Championship. Audience numbers were given a major boost yesterday, 20th August, by Mark Butcher's heroics for England at Headingley in the npower Test match, which resulted in the site's highest UK traffic for the summer.

ecb.co.uk, the official site of the England and Wales Cricket Board, is performing particularly strongly, with the CricInfo Championship having made a major contribution to increased traffic throughout the English summer. ecb.co.uk alone accounted for 70 million page views in June.

"This is a fantastic landmark for the site and reflects the fact that our audience is growing consistently. It is especially encouraging for our advertisers to note that the market continues to show considerable growth." said Alex Chamberlen, Director of Sales. "The quality and loyalty of our users suggests further opportunities for revenue generation and profitable partnerships for those wishing to target an upscale, predominantly ABC1 male audience."

Managing Director Peter Griffiths said "We have always scored heavily in terms of page views. What continues to be most encouraging is the way that our audience is receptive to new products and services, such as our ecommerce, mobile and subscription offerings. The growth we have seen this year shows how cricket fans are passionately interested in all levels of cricket on a global scale."

CricInfo, which began in 1993, has recorded in excess of 2.75 billion page views, and expects to pass the 3 billion mark later this year. CricInfo is currently working with BTopenworld to deliver the Ashes Club video subscription service, and is also offering on-demand video highlights with Sportev.
