Date-stamped : 03 Nov93 - 06:23 Ok, I've been looking through the full 1993 Britannic Assurance County Championship averages, thank you Daily Telegraph, and I've decided to make a few awards of my own:- "England's best all-rounder" award, no contest here. John Emburey of Middlesex. 19 innings, 638 runs (best 123) gives him an average of 49.07 with the bat and his 662.4 overs with 68 wickets for 1251 runs (best 8 for 40) give him an average of 18.39 with the ball. Only one outing for England this year John ? What *are* those selectors up to ? :-) "Lucky sod of the season" award goes to G. Yates of Lancashire. 10 innings for 367 runs (best 134 n.o) give him a batting average of 91.75. Huh ! "Rabbit of the year" award goes to Eddie Giddins of Sussex. 18 innings for 12 runs (best 4) give him an average of 1.09 with the bat. They put him in as night-watchman once (!). "What is this man doing in County Cricket ?" or the "Spot who used to play for England" award goes to Nick Cook of Northants. 8 innings for 48 runs (best 18) gives him 6.85 with the bat and 175.5 overs with 5 wickets for 371 runs gives him 74.20 with the ball. I wonder if he's good at making tea ? "We never knew you could bowl ?!" Surprise talent award goes to Nasser Hussain of Essex. His 10.3 overs with 1 wicket for 108 runs gives him a bowling average of er, erm, yes, 108. Get some wickets for us in WI Nasser, you could be our secret weapon ! OK, that's it. Cricket can be fun !
