The MacLaurin ReportHow it was announced[Go Back to Main Index] On Tuesday 5th August 1997 the ECB blueprint for the future of English cricket was unveiled at Lord's Cricket Ground in London. A press-conference in the Lord's banqueting suite in which almost a hundred journalists from newspapers, television and radio were assembled was held at half-past three that afternoon. The report itself took the form of a 33-page glossy leaflet which was handed out to those present and was introduced by the ECB chairman Lord MacLaurin. He and Tim Lamb then summarised the proposals using a mixture of video and computer presentations. Initial Media Reaction: The report made the lead item on practically every news programme that evening. In addition Matthew Engel and Tim Lamb appeared in a debate on the BBC's 'Newsnight' - it was noteable that at that point Engel was the only one appearing who was against the report; all the remainder of those interviewed greeted it with cautious optimism.
