Pre-season friendly reaches an exciting conclusion

Kent have been set 258 to win their 2 day friendly with Surrey at the
St.Lawrence Ground in Canterbury. Despite a poor first innings performance
in which the county could only reach 109-7 declared, Matthew Walker and
Matthew Fleming steered the side towards what at first appeared to be an
unachievable target. Yesterday Surrey opener Mark Butcher top scored with
a 112 as the visitors scored 225-5 before declaring their innings; they
added a further 141 to their lead this morning. However a short time ago,
with just eight overs left, Kent were 212 for 4 with Matthew Walker just
eleven short of a century, and captain Matthew Fleming unbeaten on 54.
