Kent Cricket News ----------------------------- www.kent.cricket.org ---------- Wed 19 Aug 1998 Kent v Worcestershire, County Championship Day 1 of 4, St.Lawrence Ground, Canterbury Worcestershire 281 for 6 at close of play (Rhodes 33*, Lampitt 22*) from 104 overs Worcestershire won the toss and elected to bat on a sunny morning in Canterbury - adding forty runs in ten overs before losing their first wicket, Eliot Wilson caught by Fulton. There then followed a 64 run parternship between Weston and Moody; terminated by a superb run out of the latter for 41 by Matthew Fleming. It was a crucial wicket shortly before lunch for Kent, as Moody had looked settled and already hit seven boundaries. Solanki survived until thirty minutes after the interval before he played on to a ball from Dean Headley and was bowled middle-stump. Weston, top scorer of the innings so far, put together a very patient 60; it took him the best part of four hours to accumulate the runs, from 151 balls including nine boundaries. Ed Smith took an excellent catch at mid-on to dismiss him. Leatherdale and Hafeez put up the main resistance during the afternoon adding 55 for the fifth. Both of them departed, caught behind, midway through the evening session. It was left to Rhodes and Lampitt to bat out the rest of the day as Worcestershire ended in a promising position on 281 for 6 - Kent will want to see the back of the tail end batsmen early tomorrow morning. Scorecard plus a full report from "The Daily Telegraph" will be available on CricInfo soon. ----------------------------------------------- Information for Spectators (Day 2 - 20th Aug) Play from 11am to 6.30pm (gates open 9am) Entrance: £8 adults, £4 concs, £10 car-park 104 overs per day, Lunch 1.15pm Tea 4.10 Weather Forecast: Dry, some sunshine, light W breeze Reports on BBC Radio Kent at these times (BST) (96.7 and 104.2FM, 774 and 1602 AM) 1104, 1125, 1204, 1225, 1304*, 1404, 1428, 1504, 1525, 1604, 1625, 1655, 1725*, 1755*, 1825*, 1904 (* indicates a full sports desk) -----------------------------------------------
