Kent Cricket News ----------------------------- www.kent.cricket.org ---------- Thu 20 Aug 1998 Kent v Worcestershire, County Championship Day 2 of 4, St.Lawrence Ground, Canterbury Worcestershire 360 all out Kent 323 for 7 at the close (Hooper 154, Marsh 46*, Fleming 42) Kent are 37 runs behind Worcestershire with 3 first-innings wickets remaining going into the third day of their Championship match at the St.Lawrence Ground. In an evenly balanced game, a lead of 30 or 40 runs could prove vital to Kent and it's Carl Hooper they have to thank for being in such a potentially promising position. The West Indian all-rounder, suffering from illness throughout the duration of this game, stayed at the crease for nearly 3 hours as he accumulated 154 with consumate ease, hitting 3 sixes and 18 fours, and pausing only to lie down between breaks in play. He shared in an 136 run 5th wicket partnership with Matthew Fleming, who made a quickfire 42 - both of them falling caught by Solanki off Rawnsley in the space of 6 overs. Earlier in the day Kent took ninety minutes to remove the last four Worcestershire batsmen as the visitors added 79 runs to their overnight score. The resistance came from Rhodes and Illingworth, both of whom made 42; Kent's Min Patel finishing with figures of 4 for 55 to be the pick of the bowlers. After Hooper and Fleming were dismissed this afternoon, Ben Phillips batted out 16 balls before being bowled for a duck. However Steve Marsh and Dean Headley managed to survive until the close. The former made 46 - hitting 2 sixes and five fours in an innings which has lasted just 54 balls so far. Marsh will be hoping to steer Kent to a first-innings lead tomorrow morning. ----------------------------------------------- Information for Spectators (Day 3 - 21st Aug) Play from 11am to 6.30pm (gates open 9am) Entrance: £8 adults, £4 concs, £10 car-park 104 overs per day, Lunch 1.15pm Tea 4.10 Weather Forecast: rain clearing during morning, but only brief sunny intervals.
