Kent Cricket News ------------------------------------------------- http://www.kent.cricket.org ------------------------ Sun 6 Dec 1998 After two days of the England tour match with Victoria, the home side were 196 runs behind on 177 for 5, in reply to England's 373 all out. Kent's Dean Headley is playing in this match and took two early wickets in the Victoria innings whilst playing a crucial role in a 3rd dismissal (a run out when Headley threw direct at the stumps from mid-on). Earlier in the day Ramprakash and Hick extended their 6th wicket partnership to 110, but a rather too familiar collapse of the England tail saw them losing their last five wickets for just 17 runs in 10 overs. The counties voted 15-1 in favour of the decision to change the County Championship to 2 divisions from the year 2000. (Kent CCC voted in favour). Following next season there will be a three-up and three-down system of promotion and relegation. Speaking on BBC Radio Kent on Friday, new captain Matthew Fleming said he thought the changes would encourage more positive cricket and the new structure would help to strengthen the England Test team. For an news article and further details, see the England home page http://england.cricket.org Fleming and Mark Ealham, are still awaiting news of whether they will be going to Australia for the One-Day Series early in 1999. That decision is likely to be made about two weeks before the matches begin. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
