Kent Cricket News ------------------------------------------------- http://www.kent.cricket.org ----------------------- Thu 11 Mar 1999 PRESS RELEASE: KENT COUNTY CRICKET CLUB ELECTS NEW CHAIRMAN Kent CCC issued the following press release earlier this week Following the resignation of David Kemp as Chairman of Kent County Cricket Club at its Annual General Meeting on 8 March, the Club has announced his successor, Carl Openshaw. Carl Openshaw is 60 and a retired Company Director. He moved to Kent in 1961 and played most of his club cricket for Tunbridge Wells, leading them to the National Club knock out final at Lord's in 1974. He also captained the Kent Over 50s when they won the National Over 50s County Championship in 1989 and 1991. As Chairman of the Woolwich Kent League from 1986 to 1992 and a member of the Kent County Cricket Club Committee since 1994, Carl has been involved in many aspects of Kent cricket for over thirty years. Commenting on his appointment he said, " In taking over as Chairman I would like to pay tribute to the magnificent job done by my predecessor David Kemp during his five and a half years in office. I am very much looking forward to taking over my new role at a time when so many changes are taking place in the structure of the First Class game. There are many challenges ahead but I hope that we will be able to preserve the long-standing traditions of Kent Cricket whilst at the same time, playing a constructive part in the future development of the game. "
