Symonds, aged 23 - a right-hand batsman and versatile bowler - is currently enjoying a successful season with Queensland. Kent Coach, John Wright, expressed his delight at Symonds' appointment: "I am very pleased that Andrew is joining us at Kent. It is a great opportunity for him. He is an outstanding young cricketer who has performed well in England before at County level. From our point of view, we were looking for a player with a competitive attitude, availability and all-round abilities and he meets those criteria. We are looking forward to his making an outstanding contribution this season."
