Kent Cricket News ----------------------------- www.kent.cricket.org ---------- Sun 13 Sep 1998 COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH On Friday evening Kent lost their championship match with Somerset by an innings and 46 runs; after they lost 19 wickets in the course of the day. Kent slumped to 86 all out in their first innings and were only about to make 210 in the second as Andy Caddick took 10-101. Caddick became the first player of the season to reach 100 first-class wickets; the first Englishman to achieve the feat since Neil Foster in 1991. Four Kent batsmen were out for ducks during the morning. At the second attempt the main contributor was Robert Key, making 56, he and Ed Smith putting on 70 for the second wicket. A full scorecard (plus report by Geoffrey Dean from the Electronic Telegraph) is available on CricInfo. ----------------------------------------------- KENT v SOMERSET at Canterbury, AXA League This afternoon Kent play their final Sunday League game of the season at the St.Lawrence Ground. The match with Somerset starts at 1pm (gates opened at 10 o'clock). Tickets £5 concessions, £10 adults, £10 cars There will be reports on BBC Radio Kent at 1.04pm and 1.30, with full commentary from 2 o'clock in "Cricket Sunday"; presented by Neil Bell and John Warnett. The pair have been broadcasting commentary on Sundays together for the past ten years and today's programme will almost certainly be the last one in it's present format; given the unpredictability of fixtures for the coming season. It's yet to be revealed what time next year's new National League matches will start - they will last 50 overs and it looks as though there will be an 11 or 12 o'clock start with a 40 minute break between innings. As I write this weather forecast for this afternoon isn't great, with a lot of low cloud around the Canterbury area. -----------------------------------------------
