Kent Cricket News ----------------------------- www.kent.cricket.org ---------- Sun 20 Sep 1998 KENT V WARWICKSHIRE, COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL DAY OF FOUR AT EDGBASTON The 1998 English season is officially over with Kent losing their final county championship match to Warwickshire at Edgbaston by 186 runs. The county were set 389 for victory but were all out for just 202 midway through the afternoon. Ed Smith salvaged some pride for the county making 58 from 54 balls - ironically his first half century of the season. Meanwhile with Kent desperately struggling at 126 for 8, Min Patel made 48 from 42 balls (9 fours) as he put on 66 with Dean Headley for the 9th wicket, however they could not prevent the inevitable, as Kent finished the season 11th in the County Championship. ----------------------------------------------- ALAN IGGLESDEN RETIRES On Tuesday Kent pace bowler Alan Igglesden announced his resignation following further problems with the back injury which has interrupted his career in the past.
