B.A.T.Sports Cricket Club - Formed 1928
Potted history
B.A.T.Sports Club opened in 1929 and in a very short space of time, a
cricket team was formed playing various local sides on a friendly basis.
During this period the side was under the name of Bramtoco amd with our
facilities attracted a number of strong fixtures which also matches the
strength of the company side. In the year of 1978, the club decided to join
the Hampshire League bearing in mind a number of other sides who were played
on a friendly basis joined the league. During this period the company in
their wisdom declared a club name change to B.A.T. because at the time the
company entered the home market. Over this period from 1979 to 1988 it
became very difficult to gain promotion due to the strength of South West
One and also at that time only the winners of the league were promoted.
On gaining promotion to the Southern League in 1996, consolidate was the
key issue and after a poor start finished the season strongly in 13th place.
Steady improvement during the 1997 season with seven win enabled the side
to finish the season in a comfortable position. Once again improvement in
the 1998 season enabled the side to finish a very creditable position of
sixth taking into consideration various player were not available due to
work commitments. The 1999 season was a very important year for the club
dye to the new Premier League starting in the 2000 season and it was
important the club were in the top league. After a number of ifs and
buts on and off the field of play, B.A.T. gained a spot in the Premier
Division One in tenth position and requirements that were necessary to
gain entry.
