Liphook and Ripsley Cricket Club - Formed 1885
Potted history
Liphook Cricket Club was formed about 1790 and for many years played cricket
on a ground in the estate of Chiltlee Manor. The Second World War saw most
of the estate pass to the control of the war department and eventually sport
moved to a more central part of the village on a ground dedicated as a war
memorial.
At this time, the club ran two teams on Saturday's and Sunday's playing
friendly cricket. In 1973, the club voted to enter the newly formed Hampshire
League, and a few years later, the second XI entered the Farnham League.
1977 saw the club take a big step in its development when it merged with the
local club Ripsley House Cricket Club, who played on land part of the estate
at Ripsley House. Under the vision of then chairman, Jim Strong, and
present chairman, George Roberts, the ground underwent a major redevelopment,
of which the latest phase will be completed during the close-season, into one
of the best in the county.
Since this decision, the club has continued to expand. With the advantage of
the new ground plus the Rec., we were able to add an extra team for Saturdays
in 1990 and the 3rd XIs promotion in 1994, a fourth XI replaced them in
The Hampshire Combination.
The first XI gained promotion in 1993 to the Southern League, and our present
standard sees this complemented with our second XI in Hampshire League Divison
3 and the 3rd Xi in Hampshire League East 2.
