Havant Cricket Club II - Formed
Havant CC II Review 2001 (by Richard Openshaw)
After two consecutive promotions in the HCL, Havant II would have gladly settled for 6th position
in their debut season in SPL3. However, after a very encouraging start a disappointing August
left us feeling slightly disappointed with our final placing.
The season started very well with six successive wins, some comfortable and some very close,
especially at Gosport where a 9th wicket partnership of 55 between Ollie Jones and Graham Benton
saw us to a satisfying last ball victory.
The first defeat of the season came in the heat of Alton on June 23. Victory against Hook and
Newnham Basics was followed by a disappointing performance against a weakened Winchester KS,
while the poorest performance came in the shape of a nine-wicket home defeat by Hursley Park.
Paultons and Flamingo (by four runs in a 500-run thriller) produced wins, while a disappointing
August was due in some respects to a weakened team.
Remarkably, not one Havant II player made a century or took five wickets in a match. No surprise
then that the SPL3 batting averages were bereft of Havant players and only Phil Mist (19 wickets)
crept in to the bowling statistics.
