Purbrook Cricket Club - Formed
Purbrook CC Review 2000 (written by Graham McCoy)
Purbrook ... targetted and achieved a top six finish, with nine wins from 14 games. The standard
of cricket was generally excellent, producing some very competitive games. The club was pleased
with the consistent levels of performance achieved throughout the season.
South African Piet Botha (435 runs), skipper Graham McCoy (427) and Ian Hunter (323) were the
batting mainstays, supported by Alan Hellier, Graham Dyer and Alan Mengham. In previous seasons,
Purbrook's batting appeared vulnerable, but winter coaching from ex-Hampshire all-rounder Trevor
Jesty improved matters no end.
The retiring Mark Stanley (26 wickets), McCoy (22) and Steve Brewer (18), aided by tight support
from Wayne Musslewhite and Robbie Charles (best figures 7-23) made Purbrook a difficult side to
score runs off.
This summer, Mike Hennessy (PCS Cormorants) and Colin Pay are due to feature for Purbrook, whose
new pavilion development at Purbrook Heath should be completed next year.
