Canadian Cricket AssociationGentlemen vs the RestDr Geoff Edwards, President, Canadian Cricket Association. There is an honoured tradition of "Gentlemen vs the Rest"- in Cricket and in other arenas. Trevor Chesterfield earlier, and Dr. Ali Bacher recently in an outstanding and must read article of December 15, 1999 have extolled the virtues of Sir Conrad Hunte. Canadian memories of Sir Conrad are as profound from high school through to adult exposures. We shall recall some of those memories and influences of "Gentlemen of the Game." Please submit any personal memories for inclusion in a further Canadian tribute.Sir Clyde Walcott's book and life story is also a "must read". Fill your youngsters' christmas stockings with this masterpiece. Michael Findlay "is the most honest person I have ever met", says Dr Geoff Edwards, President of the Canadian Cricket Association. Sir Conrad Hunte's impressions were "indelible in my mind." Michael Findlay's virtues, sportmanship and attitude have been and still are extra-terrestrial. "I have never been able to fathom that inner peace even in extreme personal and family turmoil. Could Sir Conrad have been the influence?" ICC has a Code of Conduct that states "that anyone bringing the game into disrepute is guilty of misconduct!" Moreover, "reportedly 'THE GAME' is bigger than any one of us!" Michael Findlay, Sirs Clyde Walcott and Conrad Hunte understood and personally exemplified this. How soon will "mental midgets" and "self-serving promoters" understand that "public utterances bringing the game into disrepute" and/or "blatant self promotion and aggrandizement supposedly in the name of supposedly saving the Game" hurt us all? Cowardly attacks on people unwilling to sink to the "sewers" should be exposed for what they really are." "Filth!." When will "Cricket" stand up for people who are too "lordly" and "gentlemanly" to "grovel with the nay-sayers" and the "doom- and- gloomers?" WATCH THIS SPACE for further memories of Sir Conrad Hunte. "Those whom the gods love, die young?" Let us bestow praise on our "knights" when they are still with us!" Let us honour and protect our "treasures" when they are still with us! Michael, Sir Clyde and all Gentlemen world-wide have a wonderful and peaceful Holiday. May the New Year be pleasant and fulfilling. To all true Cricket Fans, sportsmen, sponsors, players and administrators, officials and supporters world-wide, we extend Seasons Greetings from Canada, as well, and have a wonderful year 2000. " Keep the faith." Cricket will survive!
