DID U KNOW...

Who is the only bowler to twice dismiss batsmen for 99 in ODIs? (10 September 2001)

To be dismissed for 99 in any form of cricket is the most dreadful feeling for any batsman. Having made all the effort, the batsman falls short of a well deserved landmark. While the difference in runs may be just 1, the difference in glory between making it to three figures and failing at the doorstep is huge. Test cricket is littered with batsmen being dismissed on that unenviable mark.

In the limited overs game however, just 8 batsmen have been dismissed one short of a ton. The list begins with that dour Englishman Geoff Boycott, moves on to Allan Lamb, India's Kris Srikkanth, Chris Broad, South African all-rounder Lance Klusener, Lanka's diminutive keeper Romesh Kaluwitharana, Aussie southpaw Matthew Hayden and Lankan skipper Sanath Jayasuriya.

Coincidentally, there is only one bowler to have twice dismissed batsmen on 99. That honour goes to Virender Shewag, India's part time off spinner. In the last two instances where a batsman was dismissed for 99, Hayden in Bangalore and Jayasuriya in Colombo it was Shewag who ruined the party with his little off breaks.

So if India has a batsman going strong on 99, they know who they should turn to!
