Who was the youngest cricketer to achieve the double of a 1,000 runs and 100 wickets in Tests?

Kapil Dev Nikhanj, probably the greatest cricketer India has produced, claims that honour. Kapil was 21 years and 23 days old when he reached the landmark. That Sunil Gavaskar, his great contemporary, was not even playing international cricket at that age should put this achievement in perspective. Kapil then achieved that feat at the Eden Gardens in January 1980 in a Test against India's great sub-continental enemy Pakistan.
Incidentally, Kapil also began his Test career against the men from across the border. It was on October 16, 1978 at Faisalabad that the Haryana Hurricane first set foot on the international arena. Figures of 0-71 in the sixteen overs that he bowled did not give any indication of the great career ahead. When Kapil retired after playing 131 Tests, an Indian record, he had scored over 5,000 Test
runs and claimed over 400 wickets. He still remains the only cricketer in the world to have achieved those twin feats.
