After the fall of early wickets, the Sri Lankans could not attempt even a token fightback. Ashish Nehra came to the party with four lower order wickets, giving away just 35 runs in his seven overs. Zaheer Khan scalped two wickets in the middle order. But it was really Srinath who broke the back of the Lankans with the early wickets he took. Unlucky not to get a five-wicket haul, Srinath ended with 4/35 from nine overs. Sri Lanka were bowled out for 109, giving India victory by 183 runs and a berth in the semi-finals. Deservedly, Srinath was named the Man of the Match.
