When Muthiah Muralitharan appeals, it is invariably supported by the
firm belief that he has had his man. His finger has gone up as if he
knows the fate of his poor victim even before the umpire’s goes up. A
decision, you could call it, not a mere appeal, coming from a master
craftsman who has plotted the downfall of the batsman with
Machiavellian cunning, and is now willing the umpire to give him out.
