Although the Das-Ramesh partnership at the top of the innings has worked well for India, they are a twosome as unlikely to succeed as any. Das is the quiet grafter, more in the mould of a traditional opener. Ramesh is flashy, flamboyant and often difficult to tie down. A player who goes for his shots and sometimes fails trying, Ramesh is the kind of cricketer who is likely to do well in the company of Das. With Das keeping one end nice and tidy, Ramesh can look to go after the bowling. If he does come off in swinging and seaming conditions, the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid in the middle order will find their jobs much easier to do!
