Just before the Australians landed in India, Harbhajan Singh was filled with nervous tension. Not selected to play for India in the previous home series, against Zimbabwe, Harbhajan was in no way a certainty for the series against Australia. Fortunately for Sourav Ganguly and his musketeers, the selectors showed faith and persisted with Harbhajan throughout the series. Although his spin partners changed for every single Test match, Harbhajan Singh remained constant. 32 wickets at the remarkable average of 17.03, four 5 times wickets in an innings, twice 10 wickets in a match, a hat-trick… The list of highlights is long. The result? Harbhajan Singh was an overwhelming favourite for the man of the series award. Matthew Hayden, for his efforts with the bat had the privilege of sharing the award with Harbhajan Singh.
