Zimbabwe Cricket Year 1999

As a lifelong follower of cricket in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe (back to the Percy Mansell days and before that), may I congratulate you on the 1999 Yearbook as a superb publication under difficult circumstances. I was born and went to school out there but still remember with delight watching at the Police Ground in the era of Partridge and Goofy Lawrence. I also enjoy your column in The Cricketer; I myself contribute the snippet on 'Cricketana' in Wisden annually.

One thing I'd love to see as a follow-up to your feature on 'Cricketers of the Year' are some notes on ‘where are they now?’ Or is that asking the impossible?

Another minor question, if I may:- Derrick Townshend in Bulawayo has an excellent collection of memorabilia but did you know about Ted Morley's collection in Harare? Bearing in mind your currency problems and inaccessibility they have done wonders.

Gordon Phillips (U.K.)

Reply: Thanks very much. Unfortunately the Zimbabwe Cricket Yearbook will not be appearing again; the publisher says he does not find it possible any longer owing to the declining economic situation in Zimbabwe. A 'Where are they now?' is certainly something worth considering in future.

Home tours in 2001

Keep up the good work, the web page is great. Please could you send me or publish a list of touring teams coming to Zimbabwe in 2001.

Many Thanks

Roger A Little (Zimbabwe)

Reply: We published an interview with ZCU chief executive Dave Ellman-Brown in our first issue this season during which he talked about tours. Details have yet to be finalized, but it is hoped that Bangladesh will come in around April, and West Indies and India for perhaps two Tests each and a triangular one-day tournament between June and August.
