EDITORIAL
By John

A Happy New Year to all our readers and to all genuine
cricket-lovers everywhere. It has not been a happy New Year, though, for
Zimbabwean or South African cricketers, struggling unsuccessfully overseas,
or indeed for Bangladesh, overwhelmed yet again in a manner that should wake
up the ICC to the fact that they did far too little to prepare their latest
full member for the realities of Test cricket.

INTERVIEW
Alistair Campbell on Zim-A in Kenya Alistair Campbell
for the first time has been omitted from the Zimbabwean team, currently
touring Sri Lanka – although he reveals that he had been invited at the last
minute. He has just returned from the Zimbabwe A team tour to Kenya, where
he says the team was caught unawares by a well-prepared home side. Zimbabwe
lost the first three-day match but drew the second; they were beaten in
their first three one-day encounters but fought back to win the last two.
Alistair talks about it to CricInfo. [More]

THE SELECTORS – AGAIN As a Zimbabwean fan I
feel more and more that our selectors aren't choosing the best team
available. Right now the team is in Sri Lanka and we only have one
out-of-form spinner. The lack of a spinner, among other things, has cost us
the First Test and probably the series.
We have quality spinners
just sitting at home, when they should be competing in conditions which are
favourable to them. We have the likes of Paul Strang, Ray Price and Barney
Rogers. We are on an Asian tour and only pick one spinner – it’s
unbelievable. I think someone should take the selectors to these places and
let them see what the wickets look and play like, then maybe they will
understand. Sibusiso Nkomani (Belgium) [More Letters]
