At last - it seems that the Zimbabwean fighting spirit is back again!
In Test cricket, anything other than an innings defeat in a Test match
in India would have been a fine achievement - and we did far better than
that, causing much tension in the Indian camp before they got home by
four wickets. [More]

Glenn
Barrett
Glen
Barrett burst on the cricket scene in Zimbabwe when, just short of his
23rd birthday, he not only scored a century on his first-class debut,
but did so off only 54 deliveries, hit 13 sixes in the match, and came
within 20 runs of making it two centuries in the match. The feat was achieved
for the CFX Academy against Manicaland at Mutare Sports Club, and few
cricketers anywhere have made such an impact on debut. [More]
Andre
Neethling
Andre
Neethling owes his interest in cricket to an unusual set of circumstances.
He has no family background in the game, but his parents divorced when
he was about two years old, and shortly after that his mother went out
for a while with a man named Kevin Walters. Mr Walters used to play cricket
with Andre in the back garden when he was very young, and this started
an interest that never died, even when they parted. [More]

CALLING
ON MR BLIGNAUT
The national selectors are in my view sabotaging the performances of the
national team by refusing to select Andy Blignaut. Even if some indiscretions
have been committed by the above, his all-round abilities are clearly
in demand. He is probably the most belligerent batsman in the country,
yet he is not in the one-day squad. Forgive my obtuseness but I fail to
understand the selection modus operandi.

India
win it all, Zimbabwe not standing small
by
Trishna Bose
An unusually crisp and cold March greeted the players from India and Zimbabwe
in the capital city New Delhi where the second and final Test was to be
played. Down one-nil, the visitors had to win the match to square the
series. The Feroz Shah Kotla wicket on first viewing looked like it was
going to deteriorate and might not even last the five days.

Matabeleland
cricket report
by Derrick Townshend
Matabeleland
suffered a second defeat in the Castle Lager Logan Cup competition to
Midlands over the weekend. This was probably an unexpected result given
that Midlands were missing Marillier, Wishart, Price and Friend who are
currently in India with the national side.
