The Logan Cup in Harare has finally reached the 20th century, although
perhaps not the 21st! For the first time at Harare Sports Club, during
the match between Mashonaland and Mashonaland A, the big scoreboard was
in full operation, giving details of individual scores, bowling figures
and most of the information that had hitherto been available only at international
matches. [More]
INTERVIEW
The
coach's word: Geoff Marsh
National
team coach Geoff Marsh arrived back in the country on 8 April and he would
have, as of last month, started preparations for the much-awaited home
series against current world Test and one-day champions Australia. Marsh
had made a stopover in Australia after Zimbabwe’s tour of India in March.

Flower: the India tour
Grant
Flower now seems permanently part of the Zimbabwean middle order, after
opening the innings for years. He is still worth his place in the team,
but has still not regained his full form or his position as the banker
of the Zimbabwe innings. He talks to CricInfo about the recent tour to
India and other matters.

Glenn
Goosen is wicket-keeper/batsman for the CFX Academy in 2002. At present
he has impressed more with the bat than with the gloves, batting with
an aggressive if at times chancy style, and scoring a century in his third
first-class match, against Matabeleland. [More]

Manicaland
report
by
Nigel Fleming
With seven players unable to play last weekend, Manicaland withdrew from
their Logan Cup fixture against Matabeleland. As no suitable replacements
were available, the ZCU agreed to their request to have the fixture postponed.

Matabeleland
report
by
Derrick Townshend
With the tour by the Australians postponed, the ZCU moved the fixture
against Mashonaland A from the weekend of 29 March to 1 April to that
of 19 to 23 April, and Manicaland requested a change of dates, moving
their game a week later to this weekend, this being due to players being
away in Namibia and the Under-19 Festival Week. Although slightly disruptive,
this has allowed the Matabeleland team a slight break and a chance to
overcome some niggling injuries. [More]

ZIMBABWE
A TEAM IN NAMIBIA
Regarding the Zimbabwean A team sent to Namibia, I think it is incredibly
weak. If this is the second-best team we can have then Zimbabwean cricket
isn’t looking too good.
The
Zimbabwean A team is meant to be for players who are on the verge on selection,
to have the opportunity to show their talent. Players like Evans and to
a lesser extent Whittall are have-beens and will struggle to get back
into the national team. Why not have sent Rogers and Ferreira? They sent
Whittall to Namibia as captain but I feel it would have been better sending
a player who could be a future captain of Zimbabwe like Nkala to give
him a chance to captain a squad.
I
know Vermeulen has temper troubles, but he still should have been sent.
He is passionate about his cricket, and he is a player that Zimbabwe need.
Also what happened to Dan Peacock? With Australia not touring Zimbabwe
would it be worth Zimbabwe to invite Kenya and Namibia over for a one-day
series?

Reply:
Nkala actually is still suffering from a leg injury, and so was not available,
while Dan Peacock emigrated to the UK last season.
