EDITORIAL

Our best wishes to all our readers for Christmas and New Year. With no
cricket to report, ZCO will not appear next Friday, 28 December, but will be
back on Friday 4 January.
By that time Zimbabwe will have completed the First Test match against
Sri Lanka and, for whatever reason, current form suggests we will be
defeated heavily, that our national team does not have the confidence or
spirit at present to make a close game of any of the three Test matches. The
best we can hope for is to avoid three defeats in a series, which is a very
real prospect for the first time in our history.

Matabeleland report
by Derrick Townshend
The proposed tour to
Kenya has been put on hold until about mid-year 2002. It was felt it would
be too rushed and as it is of importance to both cricket unions it must be
done properly.

“WE MURDERED THEM!”
Zimbabwe’s inaugural
Test versus England ended with a history-making result in a dramatic finale
with scores level and the match still drawn. Funny, isn’t it?
The result which I heard four years ago on BBC sports news on 22 December
is still vivid in my memory. The match was great drama, memorable theatre
and unforgettable cricket because no one won. A unique feat.
