Once again Zimbabwe cricket is in turmoil, this time, and not unfamiliarly,
over the captaincy. On the eve of the team’s departure for Sharjah, Heath
Streak resigned and the ZCU announced the appointment of 24-year-old leg-spinning
all-rounder Brian Murphy as his replacement. [More]

Grant Flower: in the runs again
Grant Flower has had a chequered career over the
last few years. Three years ago he seemed set to embark on a career of
true world class, and then struck a period of appalling form, due mainly
to technical and confidence problems. He lost form as an opener and was
finally dropped to the middle order a year ago in India; he responded
with a mass of runs again. Then he struggled for runs again in the middle
order against South Africa and England, yet was promoted to opening the
innings again. He responded with scores of 96 and 104 in the two Bulawayo
matches against England. He talks to John Ward about his fortunes. [More]

Marsh: Zim a good challenge
Incoming
national coach Geoff Marsh believes that the Zimbabwe cricket team will
become a competitive side by the start of the 2003 World Cup. Marsh took
over from fellow Australian Carl Rackemann who returned home soon after
the five-match series against England last week. Having been coach of
the highly successful Australia between 1996 and 1999, Marsh concedes
that it was a difficult decision to take charge of a small country like
Zimbabwe.

HOW WILL ZCU SOLVE
THE PROBLEMS?
My question, is how is the Zimbabwe Cricket Union going to sort out its
problems, or how are they going to go about it? It seems as though the
ZCU has had these problems before and not so long ago, concerning salaries
and racial quotas. Yet the same problems keep rearing their ugly heads.
It seems as though we are not getting anywhere.

Manicaland
Cricket Report
by Nigel Fleming
The new-look Manicaland team travelled to Old Hararians last Sunday to
open the 2001/2 national league program. Added to last year’s side are
national discards Alistair Campbell and Guy Whittall who join world number
one Test batsman Andy Flower. All three have come to Manicaland at the
ZCU’s expense as part of their ongoing decentralization policy.
