Tournament Details
The Hong Kong Cricket Association is proud to host the inaugural Youth Asia Cup tournament on behalf of the Asian Cricket Council. This is a major step forward for cricket in the region and for Hong Kong's own drive to develop cricket's profile in these parts.
The top two teams from this tournament will go forward to contest the Youth World Cup in South Africa in January 1998.
The Youth Asia Cup would not have been possible without the support from the following organisations:

 - Congratulations to Bangladesh - the Youth Asia Cup Champions! Check out our collection of photos from the after match function.
- Hong Kong comfortable winners over Nepal in Plate Final.
- The tournament went off without a hitch operationally, and the Asian Cricket Council are to be applauded for their initiative in developing cricket throughout the region. Full credit to the Hong Kong Cricket Association staff who organised the event.
5th December 1997
- Bangladesh and Papua New Guinea qualify to play in the Youth World Cup in South Africa in January. The unlucky team was Hong Kong which missed a golden opportunity to beat Bangladesh which would have assured it of a place in the World Cup. However after losing that match Hong Kong placed themselves in a position of reliance on others, and when Papua New Guinea, against the odds, defeated Bangladesh it became a three way race decided on run rate, with PNG just slipping through.
4th December 1997
- Bangladesh too strong for brave Hong Kong in first semi-final round match. Papua New Guinea defeat Nepal.
3rd December 1997
- Wednesday will see the departure of the teams not advancing to round two, and is otherwise a rest day before the action heats up on Thursday. Bangladesh will meet Hong Kong in what will be a difficult match for the home team. Bangladesh continue to look a cut above the opposition, but Hong Kong are proving themselves to be confident and capable.
2nd December 1997
- Papua New Guinea, Hong Kong, Nepal and Bangladesh qualify for semi-final round.
- Philip Parker of Singapore continued his outstanding batting form with another big century to take him past 400 runs in three innings at the tournament - an outstanding effort. Unfortunately not enough to take Singapore into the second round.
- Temperatures in Hong Kong for today's matches were decidedly cool at 16 degrees with a very fresh wind - some players were able to experience the thrill of wearing a long sleeved sweater for the first time in their cricketing careers.
1st December 1997
- Cheruparambil's undefeated century takes Hong Kong to victory over Singapore.
- Bangladesh yet to lose a wicket in tournament. Hong Kong and Nepal also remain undefeated.
30th November 1997
- First round wins to Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Nepal and Singapore.
- Singapore's Philip Parker hits 165 against Fiji.
29th November 1997
- Full credit to the Asian Cricket Council for playing a proactive role in promoting the development of cricket in Asia. Tournaments like this can only be good for cricket in the region, particularly Hong Kong the host country. Hong Kong's team boasts seven locally born players of whom 5 have Chinese heritage, and this is attracting the attention of the local media and Government agencies including the Hong Kong Sports Development Board.

As set out in the Booklet "Playing Conditions for Youth Asia Cup 1997". Essentially ICC One day International rules apply, as the top two teams from the Youth Asia Cup advance to the Youth World Cup in South Africa, January 1998.
