Player of the Day - Ravneet Ricky
Anand Vasu - 25 January 2000
Over fifty matches have been completed in the Under-19 World Cup so far.
There have plenty of one sided matches with big guns taking on
inexperienced sides. Yet there had been only two centuries in the
tournament when India took on Australia in the semifinals. Today, Ravneet
Ricky slammed 108 and increased that count.

Player of the Day - Faisal Iqbal
Anand Vasu - 24 January 2000
A fighting knock in a lost cause is not always recognised. But when a young
lad saunters into the playing arena with a swagger of confidence and plays
an innings that takes his team close to victory in the semi-finals of a
World Cup, one cannot help but sit up and take notice. The youngster who
caught the eye in today's tense clash was Faisal Iqbal. Iqbal's 53 off 71
balls displayed the same poise that one is used to seeing in his uncle -
Javed Miandad.

Player of the Day - Tim Welsford
Charlie Austin - 22 January 2000
Tim Welsford from Northcote in Melbourne had one of those matches you dream
of today at De Soysa Park, Moratuwa. His performance was instrumental in
Australia's qualification to the semi-finals.
Following on from his 70 against New Zealand in their practice game. he top
scored in this match with a fine 30. It may not sound a great deal but in
the context of such a low scoring game it was invaluable.

Player of the Day - Manish Sharma
20 January 2000
Today’s player of the day is Manish Sharma for his magnificent 86 not out
against England. With the bowlers dominating so far in the tournament it
was a real treat to watch such a talented player express himself. Scoring
his runs off just 114 balls and hitting seven fours and three memorable
sixes, he led India to victory in style.

Player of the Day - Tatenda Taibu
19 January 2000
Tatenda Taibu is clearly a bright prospect for the future. The 17 year old
Zimbabwe's wicket-keeper played very well at Galle International Cricket
Stadium against Kenya on wednesday. Behind the stumps he looked natural
with his glovework neat and precise.

Player of the Day - Zahid Saeed
Erroll Seneviratne - 18 January 2000
The architect of Pakistan's comfortable victory over New Zealand was their
pace bowler Zahid Saeed. In helpful conditions, Saeed was
quite unplayable and none of the batsmen were able to cope
with his pace.
Saeed looks a certain future Test player. The tall lad
knocked the backbone of the New Zealand batsmen in
devastating fashion, finishing with five for 13.

Player of the Day - Yuvraj Singh
Anand Vasu - 16 January 2000
When India were looking down the barrel at 38 for 4 it needed someone to
play a blinder to get them out of trouble. That blinder came from Yuvraj
Singh. The left hander dealt some of the most cruel blows of the day and
smashed the hapless Kiwi bowlers all over the park.

Player of the Day - Anup Dave
Anand Vasu - 14 January 2000
The player of the day should have been the rain. On a day when three
matches out of four were abandoned without a ball being bowled and the
other match was first shortened and then abandoned due to rain, there was
no more decisive factor. Even within this highly restrictive framework,
Anup Dave managed to turn out a clinical performance.

Player of the Day - Ryan Hinds
Charlie Austin - 13 January 2000
Ryan Hinds made the West Indies dramatic defeat of England at the SSC
possible. The Bajan batsmen, left arm orthodox
bowler and captain came to the wicket with his
team perilously placed on 54-3. With the
support of Deonarine and then Lopez, Hinds
changed the course of the match, scoring 69 off
just 72.

Player of the Day - Jacques Rudolph
Anand Vasu - 12 January 2000
When someone slams 156 runs off 140 balls in the first match they are playing in a
big tournament like the World Cup, you know that you better keep a keen eye on
them. Jacques Rudolph has caught the eye of everyone who witnessed his knock
against Nepal. Rudolph showed how to build a large innings without losing tempo,
and that was the key to South Africa posting a large total.
