Eight(8) teams will complete in the Busta Cricket Series, 2001-02
Regional Teams | Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, Leeward Islands,
Windward Islands and Guyana. |
International Invitee | Bangladesh "A" |
WI Under 23 Team | West Indies B |
TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE
The tournament will involve two stages, which will determine first the
Busta Cup winners (top Regional Team) and subsequently the winner of the
Busta International Shield: Busta Cup
This first stage will entail a league format with each team playing each other once.
All eight (8) teams will participate with all matches counting for points:
- i)All points earned by the Regional Teams (including against the WI B and international
invitee will count fully towards their standings in the Busta Cup.
- ii)The WI B team and the International Invitee will earn "shadow points" based on the
same scoring system and which count only towards their qualification for the second stage.
BUSTA CRICKET SERIES AWARDS
As in previous years, prizes for Caribbean regional teams should provide the
impetus and incentive to become the Caribbean Champion (Busta Cup), but now
also to aim higher and become the Busta Cricket Series Champion (Busta International Shield).
To create this incentive, the trophies and cash award for the tournament are as follows:

The tournament will be played on a league basis with each team playing the other once.

Abandoned Match
In the event of a match being abandoned without any play having taken place,
or in the event of there being no 1st innings decision, four (4) points each.
Busta Cup Winner
The winner of the Busta Cup shall be the Regional team with the highest number
of points at the end of league play.
If there is an equality of points (for any position), each team's position will
be decided by, in order of priority:
- Result of their head-to-head meeting.
- The team with the most outright wins.
- If there remains equality after applying 1.) and 2.) above, then the
positions will be determined by average, calculated thus:-
Divide the total runs scored by a team by the total number of
wickets it lost..
Divide the total number of runs against a team by the total
number of wickets it took.
Divide the former (a) by the latter (b). The team having the
higher percentage shall be considered to have the better performance.
For the purpose of the calculations and for individual averages,
a team declaring its innings closed shall be deemed to have lost
only the number of wickets which have actually fallen.
Please also note that if a match in the league ends in a no result
the scores from that match will not be included in this calculation.
Busta International Shield
At the conclusion of league play, the four highest ranked teams shall contest
two semi-finals, the Busta International Shield semi-finals.
The team placed first in the league will play at home versus the team
placed fourth and the team placed second in the league will play at home
versus the team placed third.
The winners of the two semi-finals will contest the Busta International
Shield Finals.
The team which either wins its semi-final outright, or on first innings in a
drawn match, will proceed to the final.
- If the result in a semi-final is a tie the winner will be determined
by applying the tie-breakers set out in 1.) , 2.) and 3.) a.) to e.)
under the heading Busta Cup Winner, which is set out on page 3 of the
Competition Format .
- If the teams' scores are tied on first innings, but the match is drawn,
the winner will be determined by applying the tie-breakers set out in
1.) , 2.) and 3.) a.) to e.) under the heading Busta Cup Winner, which
is set out on page 3 of the Competition Format . For the purpose of this
calculation, the scores in the semi-final will also be included.
- If the semi-final ends in a no result (Abandoned Match), the winner
will be determined by applying the tie-breakers set out in
1.) , 2.) and 3.) a.) to e.) under the heading Busta Cup Winner, which
is set out on page 3 of the Competition Format .
Hosting the Busta International Shield Finals
The team which hosts the finals of the Busta International Shield will be the
semi-final winner which had the higher ranking at the end of league play.
Busta International Shield Winner
- The team which wins the final outright, or on first innings in a drawn match,
will be declared the winner.
- If the teams' scores are tied on first innings, but the match is drawn,
then the two teams will be named joint champions
- If the final ends in a tie, then the two teams will be named joint champions.
- If the final ends in a no result, then the two teams will be named joint champions.
