Ruchira Perera struck two early blows to the Indian second innings, removing Ramesh (2) and SS Das (23). Ramesh played down the wrong line and was bowled, Das played a loose square cut to Suresh Perera at point. Kaif (14) fell to the wily Muralitharan and India were 53/3 in the 24th over. It was left to Dravid and Ganguly to come up with a rescue act. Ganguly (4) was blown away by Fernando, stumps knocked back by the sheer pace. Badani failed once again with the bat, caught behind by Sangakkara off Muttiah Muralitharan after making just five runs. India were in further trouble, 73/5 at that stage.
