(Colombo Final ODI - 05 Aug 2001)
Mahela Jayawardene is one of the stylish batsmen in international
cricket these days. He showed glimpses of his class in making a
patient half century (57) and helping Sri Lanka pile on the runs. The
running between the wickets between Jayasuriya and Jayawardene was a
treat to watch. They converted every opportunity to score quick runs
with such ease. Jayawardene's innings came to an end when he tried to
play an outrageous reverse sweep off the bowling of Harbhajan Singh
and was given out lbw. Sri Lanka were 218/4 in the 40th over and was
in a position to go for the charge in the happy overs.
